3 Great Irish TV Ads

Today topic is, 3 Ads on Irish Television that really stood out for me. In my own personal opinion,  what makes a good ad is that it has to be creative or funny, easily memorable and it just needs to be able to catch your attention from the very start.

  1. Aldi ‘Fear of God’ Speech Ad

The first ad for me is currently my favourite ad that I’ve seen in a while. It shows a young boy, no more than 10 years of age, waking from his bed and then he start to say word for word Paul O’ Connells famous ‘fear of God’ speech.

He continues the speech at the breakfast table with he parents looking at him grinning as if this is a usual thing he does.

The ads then cuts to his father dropping him to off to a morning training and the child then continues imitating his Paul O Connell persona by saying ‘Great stuff Dad you found the space and used it really well’ which would be common talk among rugby during matches, encouraging them.

He then continues the speech into the camera as he is walking over to the rest of he team and he is met by……

Paul O Connell!!….

The kid looks on stunned with a priceless reaction you would expect to see when someone meets there ideal. Paul amusingly then says to finish of the ad ‘I’ll take it from here’ as he takes the kid and the rest of the team out for a training session.

The ads then finished with a voice over explaining the release of their new ‘Aldi Play Rugby’ campaign which is a competition to win a training session with Paul O Connell.

Overall  this ad hit all the right notes for me and is one i will certainly remember!

2) Vodafone Pig Ad

The second ad I will talk about is a Vodafone and which features a man who discovers a lost pig, which is also a fantastic ad in my opinion.

The ad is a short story advert where a man discovers a little pig out in the middle of the countryside.

He takes the pig in his van a starts to call various people inquiring about who might own said pig.

The ad then shows short little cut scenes throughout the day of him talking to and feeding the pig. He takes in the pig and that night he is woken by the pig squealing from outside the house. He then lets in the pig to stay inside.

The next scene is the following day as he receives a message from the owner who he then calls and explains he can return the pig.

On arrival to the owners house he discovers a sign outside the house which says ‘free range pork’. He is shocked when he reads the sign and its clear he developed a fondness for the pig.

The final scene is him driving back through the same countryside where he found the pig. He is again on the phone to a friend as he then asks if he knew anything about looking after pigs. The final picture is the pig in passenger seat.

A voiceover then comes on explaining Vodafone have ‘Superfast 4G across 90% of Ireland’.

I thought this ad was extremely heart warming and also very creative which is why i think Vodafone did a great job on catching the consumers attention during the ad, because it certainly caught mine!

3) To Arthur Guinness

The final ad I’m going to talk about today is an ad that was made to celebrate Guinness’s 250th year anniversary. Arthur Guinness the created Guinness in 1759. The ad begins with 2 men sitting in a pub and they toast ‘To Arthur’. Then a giant Chinese whispers chain reaction sequence begins to unfold throughout the ad and it spreads across the whole world!

The first of the toasts begin with these two men sitting at the bar toasting to Arthur.

They are then over heard by a man next to them and a chain reaction begins which spreads throughout the pub.

Where the Chinese whispers aspect comes from is when a man further down the street in a different pub mishears what the people in the first pub say. He turns to the people he is with a toasts ‘to Martha’.

The toasting then spreads across the rest of the town with many more people toasting with a Guinness in their hand.

The ad then does a series of mini cut scenes of many more people across the world from India to China all showing people toasting with Guinness’s.

The ad then finishes with this picture and a voice over trying to get people involved in celebrating Arthur Guinness Day.

Overall I picked these three ads due to their creativity and humor. Picking these ads was relatively easy for me for these reasons.
